Originally tried slitting some vinyl tubing lengthwise which gave me a pc ~3" to span the gaps. Had to use a heat gun to flatten after slitting, which added melt scars from the 2 scrap pieces of plywood use to sandwich and flatten while heating. Useable, but no longer very clear or pretty. The bigger problem was that it didn't hold screws very well.
